Find details here of our opening arrangements according to the different alert levels for high temperatures and heatwaves
Opening hours
Adjusted opening hours – from 27 July to 16 August:
- 9.00 am – 5.30 pm | Last admission at 4.45 pm.
This measure is designed to ensure the monument is open during the coolest and most comfortable times of day for both visitors and staff.
Outside these dates, opening hours remain unchanged for the time being:
- 10.00 am – 6.30 pm | Last admission at 5.45 pm

YELLOW: Heatwave
- Guided tours take place at 10.30 am, 11 am and 4.30 pm (approx. 45 mins). Guided tours subject to change.
- From 27 July to 16 August: Guided tours take place at 9.30 am, 10 am and 10.30 am (approx. 45 mins). Guided tours subject to change.
- On Sundays, there is a single tour in the morning at 10.15 am due to the mass.
ORANGE: Heatwave
- Guided tours take place at 10.30 am and 11.00 am (approx. 45 mins). Guided tours subject to change.
- From 27 July to 16 August: Guided tours take place at 9.30 am, 10 am and 10.30 am (approx. 45 mins). Guided tours subject to change.
- On Sundays, there is a single tour in the morning at 10.15 am due to the mass.
RED: Extreme heatwave
- No guided tours.
Self-guided tours remain available in all these situations, except where the site is closed due to a risk to the public or staff.

Tips for your visit
- Remember to bring water with you and to drink regularly.
- A drinking fountain is available in the shop.
- Bring a hat or cap.
- Remember to apply sun cream.
- Bring sunglasses and wear light, breathable clothing.
- A fan may come in handy during periods of intense heat.
In addition to the heatwave plan, the department is also facing a high risk of wildfires.
- Smoking is strictly prohibited in the abbey and its immediate surroundings.
- Never throw a cigarette butt on the ground, even if it is extinguished.
- Please follow the safety instructions and any access restrictions relating to the fire alert level.
For your safety
Hot weather can cause fatigue, dehydration or discomfort. Keep an eye on how you and those with you are feeling, particularly children and vulnerable people.
The abbey grounds are uneven, with numerous steps and some areas that may be slippery. Please take care when moving around to minimise the risk of falling. We recommend wearing suitable walking shoes.
